Good Charlotte--the young and the hopeless {POP PUNK} (2002) RATING: 4 out of 5
Wow! I was pleasantly surprised when i unwrapped this one on christmas. Its filled with great harmonies, great melodies...and just enjoyable music. The boys have done a deal of growing up since the last album, the songs sound more educated and are well produced and delivered. Some are instant favourites at first listen, and some take a few more times but all are great. There's not one track on this record that i can say i really don't like...but, thats just me. There's something for everyone here...the album kicks off with "a new beginning": a fast and hard punk rock opener for the hard-core amoung you. Next is "the anthem": this really gives you a taste of the album's feel and sound. Its fast but melodic and as the name forshadows, it has anthem-like chants and great "i won't listen to your shit!" lyrics. Some of my personal favourites are "girls & boys": a humorous look at the dating game, "my bloody valentine" which just has a great overall sound and a totally genious melody, "riot girl" which might be a little too pop-punky for some but also is a great fun song to play loud, "the young and the hopeless" of coarse the title track, is another anthem-like song but to me is the highlight of the album. It hits hard and has a killer sound that i just can't get enough of. There's also a very emotional acoustic track called "emotionless" which is good for those depressing times in your room. All the songs are great, but those are just highlights. Overall the young and the hopeless' 14 tracks will have u dancing, moshing and singing along to every second.
Dashboard Confessional -- the places you have come to fear the most {EMO} (2001) RATING: 5 out of 5
